Glaces (Floating Ice)

SEE THE VIDEO

The performance Glaces (Floating Ice) was commissioned by Les Rendez-vous du cinema québécois. It was presented for the first time on February 22 2008 with musician and composer Pierre Duchesne, during an evening that included two other groups doing image and music performances ((Volatile Works and Carl Lemieux). It consist in a meditation on images of floating ice that I shoot in December 2005 at Ste-Hélène island right in front of Montreal. It simply is a very long shot where can only be seen ice floating along the current on the St-Lawrence River. It has an almost abstract quality and is intensely hypnotic. I did this shooting while producing a clip for the fiftieth anniversary of the Art Council of Montreal. Those images readily fascinated me but it took years before I found out what to do with them. They went through elaborate digital processing that resulted in a DVD that is used as a background for live animation.

Solo performances Technical rider

Seule la main… and Glaces

Contact:

Pierre Hébert: ph@pierrehebert.com

Video:

- Highest quality video projector(s) possible, preferably one that accept an NTSC signal. (If the video projector only accept PAL signal, Pierre Hébert must be notified of this before he leaves his home in Montreal).

- The ideal setting is a three side by side screens projection with three video projectors. It can also be done with a single screen and a single projector. If the performer is set on stage facing the public, the bottom of the projected image should be above his heads when he is sitting on stage (about 4 feet/i.5 meter above the stage floor).

- Projection can be front or rear, as you like.

- Cabling to send a composite video signal(s) (“rca” or “cinch” connector) from an on stage video mixer and DVD players to the video projector(s) (wherever the projectors are). Note: all video comes from on stage sources.

Sound:

- Highest quality sound system possible.

- If the piece is done as a solo presentation, Pierre Hebert would be sending a stereo signal from a CD player on stage. If the piece is done as a duet with live music an addendum to this technical rider would be supplied.

Lighting:

- 1 very focusable light which can be cut extremely tight to cover an area on the table approximately 8 inches x 12 inches, no color. It should come laterally from the left of the performer.

Power:

- 10 ac oulet on stage where we sit.

Misc.:

- 1 piano benches or chairs without arms.

- 1 tables approximately 3’x 2’ (1.5m x .70m)

- 2 sturdy mike stands with boom (to hold small digital cameras).
